All therapy may include a neurobiological understanding of anxiety, depression trauma and how this impacts the nervous system and our physical health.
CBT
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a brief therapy that understands human behaviour and emotion as mediated by our thoughts and thought processes. CBT is the recommended intervention by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) for a range of mild to moderate mental health problems including depression, anxiety, stress, PTSD, OCD, BDD, Social Anxiety Disorder, generalised anxiety disorder (excessive worry), low self esteem, phobias, health anxiety, panic and agoraphobia.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing
EMDR understands psychological problems as having developed as a result of adverse experiences and traumatic memories that inform our emotional responses in the present. It is a recommended intervention by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) for PTSD. There is growing evidence that it works with a range of other emotional disorders that have manifested due to adverse life experiences.
CFT
Compassion Focused Therapy
CFT is informed by both neuroscience and evolutionary psychology and takes the view that compassion towards the self and others is essential for wellbeing. As humans evolved as part of a social network, acceptance and compassion are fundamental to our emotional and physical health. Without self compassion, we can develop a critical internal voice and perpetuate stress in the nervous system that leads to chronic ill health.
