What to Expect from Therapy
Once you contact me, I will arrange a free telephone consultation to establish whether CBT/CFT or EMDR will be appropriate for you. Our first session after that will last 50 minutes and focus on developing a shared understanding of how presenting problems first developed and how they are being maintained. From here we can agree whether you require CBT, EMDR, Compassion Focused Therapy or a combination of all three. Each session will last 50 minutes unless we are reprocessing trauma, in which case we may agree a 90 minute session.
At your first appointment I will ask you to sign a therapy agreement. A copy of this agreement is available to view on my website. If possible, please read prior to your first appointment.
Sessions will focus on evidence-based interventions tailored to your presenting issues and you may be assigned between session tasks in order to practice engaging in new behaviours.
What to do next:
When you contact me I will arrange a telephone consultation. This gives you the chance to ask me questions, and decide if want to book your first appointment.
During this discussion I will also determine if CBT or EMDR is right for you at this time. Sometimes another service would be more appropriate.
Some disorders require a team approach, supported by medication. As a private therapist, I am unable to treat psychosis, personality disorders, schizophrenia, bi-polar, and eating disorders and it is important that you request a full mental health assessment via the GP or the Specialist Triage and Referral Team.
If at any time during therapy I feel another service would be more appropriate, I will refer you to ensure your needs are met.
